Bhallatak is a medium sized (30-50 ft) tree growing in the tropical and subtropical forests of India. Its fruit is used for medicinal purposes. Fruit is widely used in neuro-endocrine and

  • Modulates the immunity – Bhallatak has been reported to modulate the abnormal immunity as happens in auto-immunity (where the immune cells attack own cells). It is thus useful in auto-immune disorders, including – Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, SLE, lichen planus, IBD, multiple sclerosis, alopecia areata, type-I diabetes, etc.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to stimulate the thyroid functions by enhancing the production of thyroid hormones. It is thus used in hypothyroidism, especially auto-immune thyroiditis.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to stimulate the fat metabolism, and thus burn rxcessive body fat, lower the raised cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood and counter / reverse atherosclerotic process. It is thus used in – (1) Obesity; (2) Dyslipidemias – Raised blood cholesterol and triglycerides; and (3) Atherosclerotic disorders – CAD, stroke, peripheral artery disease, renal atherosclerosis, etc.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to counter the inflammatory mediators and thus alleviate inflammation. On the basis, it can be used in the management of inflammatory disorders – arthritis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, dermatitis etc.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to inhibit the replication of viruses. It is thus useful in the management of viral infections.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. These include – Gram +ve, Gram -ve, and anerobic bacteria. On the basis of its anti-bacterial activity, Ativisha can be used in the management of almost all types and degrees of bacterial infections.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to inhibit the fungal growth. It is thus useful in the management of fungal infections.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to prevent the aggregation of platelets and thus prevent blood coagulation. It is thus used as an anti-platelet, thrombolytic, and anti-coagulant drug.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to prevent oxidative stress and is thus used in degenerative disorders.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to lower raised blood sugar, possibly by enhancing tissue sensitivity to insulin. It is thus used in diabetes type-II.

  • Bhallatak has been reported to Lowers sperm production and/or motility. It may thus be used as a contraceptive agent in males.
