LICORICE

Licorice
Licorice or Mulethi, also known as “Sweetwood”, is an effective and potent medicinal herb. Licorice root is aromatic and is used as a flavoring agent in tea and other beverages.
Licorice roots can be consumed directly to get relief from cough and sore throat.
Properties of Licorice are mentioned in Bhavprakash, an Ayurveda textbook, as:
यष्टी हिमा गुरुः स्वाद्वी चक्षुष्या बलवर्णकृत् ।
सुस्निग्ध शुक्रला केश्या स्वर्या पित्तानिलास्त्रजित्। व्रणशोथविषच्छर्दितृष्णाग्लानिक्षयापहा ॥
Licorice is Sita (cold) in nature, Guru (heavy) to digest, and Madhura (sweet) in taste. Licorice is beneficial to eye problems due to its Chakshuya(good for eyes) property. It also helps improve strength because of its Balya (strength provider) property. It also helps to improve sperm and semen quality due to its Shukral property.
Licorice might be useful in managing oral problems like mouth sores and dental plaques. It balances Pitta and Vata that gives relief in mouth ulcers and other Pitta disorders. Applying a paste of Licorice powder and honey might help relieve mouth sores due to its healing and cooling properties. It is also beneficial in managing gastric problems like stomach ulcers and heartburn due to its anti-ulcer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Licorice can also be taken to improve energy levels and manage fatigue.
Licorice powder is also useful in improving skin texture and color. In some cases, excessive consumption of Licorice may cause nausea and headache
BHRINGRAJ

Bhringraj
Bhringraj is also known as Kesharaj which means “Ruler of the hair”. It is rich in proteins, vitamins and antioxidants which help protect the body against certain infections.
Bhringraj oil is is effective in promoting hair growth as well as reducing the greying of hair. This is due to the presence of various nutrients in Bhringraj that provide nourishment to the hair scalp. According to Ayurveda, Bhringraj juice rejuvenates the skin and thereby helps reduce the signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and patchy skin due to its anti-aging property. Bhringraj powder along with a carrier oil (like coconut oil) can also be used to manage skin infections and allergies due to its antimicrobial property.
Taking Bhringraj powder along with water helps in the management of cholesterol levels due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It also protects the liver cells against damage caused by free radicals due to its hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties. Taking Bhringraj leaves in the powdered form increases the production of urine due to its diuretic property and therefore helps to manage urinary complications. Bhringraj is also beneficial in managing the symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders (such as diarrhea and dysentery) like contractions or spasms in the stomach, intestine or urinary bladder due to its antispasmodic property.
It is advisable to use Bhringraj in the recommended dosage as high dosage may cause stomach problems
MANJISTHA

Manjistha
Manjistha or Indian Madder is considered to be one of the best blood-purifying herbs. It is mainly used to break down blockages in the blood flow and remove stagnant blood.
Manjistha herb can be used both internally and externally on skin for promoting skin whitening. Applying Manjistha powder along with honey or rose water (at least 2-3 times a week) helps manage acne and pimples by inhibiting the growth of acne-causing bacteria due to its antioxidant property. Topical application of Manjistha oil and coconut oil reduces inflammation and skin rashes associated with acne due to its anti-inflammatory property. It is also helpful in keeping the hair shiny and healthy. Rinsing your eyes with Manjistha decoction might help control excessive watery discharge due to its astringent property.
As per Ayurveda, taking Manjistha powder after lunch and dinner helps manage diarrhea due to its Deepan (appetizer) and Pachan (digestive) properties. Consuming Manjistha on a regular basis might be good for diabetics as it lowers the blood glucose levels.
Excessive consumption of Manjistha might cause constipation due to its Guru and Kashaya properties. So, It is advisable to take Manjistha with hot water, if you already have any digestion-related problem
VIJAYSAR

Vijaysar
Vijaysar is widely used in Ayurveda as a “Rasayana” (rejuvenating) herb. The bark of Vijaysar has significant importance in Ayurveda in managing diabetes and is also known as “The miracle cure for Diabetes” mainly due to its Tikta (bitter) nature.
Vijaysar helps to manage blood sugar levels by preventing the damage to pancreatic cells and promoting insulin secretion due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Drinking water kept overnight in glasses made of Vijaysar wood is an age old practice for keeping blood sugar levels in control. Taking 1-2 Vijaysar capsules twice a day is also good for diabetes and weight loss.
Vijaysar protects the liver against cell damage caused by free radicals due to its antioxidant activity. Vijaysar is effective in improving heart health by decreasing the production of bad cholesterol and fatty acids and also keeps a check on body weight due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Vijaysar might be beneficial for managing diarrhea by decreasing the frequency of stools due to its antidiarrhoeal property and also helps to expel intestinal worms due to its anthelmintic activity.
Vijaysar powder along with water can be applied on the skin to manage skin problems like inflammation and infections due to its antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Applying Vijaysar leaf juice along with honey on wounds promotes wound healing.
Vijaysar due to its blood sugar lowering property should be used carefully by diabetic patients as it may cause a sudden drop in blood sugar levels
HARAD

Harad
Harad is an herb which is commonly known as Harade in India. It has multiple Ayurvedic health benefits. Harad is an amazing herb that can be helpful in controlling hair loss and promoting hair growth. This is due to the presence of vitamin C, iron, manganese, selenium, and copper that provides optimal nourishment to the scalp. In Ayurveda textbooks, properties of Harad are mentioned in this sloka:
हरीतकी प चरसाइलवणा तुवरा परम्। रूक्षोष्णा दीपनी मेथ्या स्वादुपाका रसायनी॥
चक्षुष्या लघुरायुष्या बृंहणी चानुलोमिनी। श्वासकासप्रमेहार्शः कुष्ठशोथोदरक्रिमीन्।
वैस्वर्यग्रहणीरोगविबन्धविषमज्वरान् । गुल्माध्मानतृषाछर्दिहिक्काकण्डूहृदामयान्।।
Harad has Ruksha (dry), Deepan (appetizer), Medhya (intelligence improving), and Rasayana (rejuvenating) properties. The use of Harad is beneficial for eyes and general weakness due to its Chakshuya (good for eyes) and Brahan (improves health) nature. It also helps to reduce body ache due to the Vata Anuloma (Vata balancing) property. Harad is also useful in reducing cough and its associated problems like breathlessness. It also helps in relieving digestive problems due to its Deepan (appetizer) and Pachan (digestive).
The oil obtained from Harad seeds is used to improve the motility of the gastrointestinal tract. This helps promote bowel movement and promote the easy removal of stool in case of chronic constipation. Taking Harad powder (mixed with water) two times a day helps boost the immune system by reducing cell damage due to its antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities.
Applying Harad powder along with coconut oil in the form of paste is used to heal wounds due to its astringent property. It also helps fight against infectious agents and prevents skin infections. Harad extract can also be applied on the eyelids to manage certain eye diseases as it acts as a nerve tonic.
In some cases, excessive consumption of Harad might cause diarrhea. Also, it would be advisable to use Harad paste with a carrier oil (coconut oil) if your skin is hypersensitive
LODHRA

lodhra
Lodhra is a traditional medicine used by Ayurvedic practitioners. All parts like roots, bark as well as leaves of this plant are used for medicinal purposes but most useful is its stem.
Lodhra is considered useful in managing female disorders such as leucorrhea (excessive vaginal discharge) which is caused by vaginal infections as it has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to manage excessive menstrual bleeding by promoting blood thickening due to its astringent and hemostatic (process which stops bleeding) properties. This hemostatic property is also useful in managing nose bleeding.
For females suffering from PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), Lodhra is quite useful as it increases the levels of female hormones and reduces the levels of male hormones in the female body. This helps in the maturation and release of eggs which otherwise gets compromised due to hormonal imbalance and reduces the symptoms of PCOS.
Ayurveda recommends taking Lodhra powder with plain water or rice water twice a day to get relief from leucorrhea and other menstrual problems.
Applying Lodhra powder along with rose water on your wounds might help in faster wound healing due to its anti inflammatory, antimicrobial and astringent properties. Lodhra powder can also be applied on your gums along with honey to get relief from swelling and pain
JATAMANSI

Jatamansi
Jatamansi, also known as “tapaswani” in Ayurveda, is a perennial, dwarf, hairy, herbaceous and endangered plant species. It acts as a brain tonic and helps to improve memory and brain functions by preventing cell damage due to its antioxidant property. It also calms down the brain and manages anxiety as well as insomnia.
According to Ayurveda, Jatamansi helps in preventing wrinkles due to its Snigdha (oily) nature. It also promotes wound healing due to its Ropan (healing) property. Taking Jatamansi powder along with honey once or twice a day helps to improve memory functions. You can also take Jatamansi tablets or capsules which are also readily available in the market.
Applying Jatamansi oil on the skin helps manage skin infections and prevents aging due to its antifungal and antioxidant activities. Amla
Amla, also known as “Indian gooseberry”, is loaded with nutrients and is the richest natural source of vitamin C. It is widely used for many health problems. Regular use of Amla also boosts immunity. According to Ayurveda, Amla is one of the best Rasayanic tonics that helps to brighten the skin, purify the blood, and improve eyesight. Medicinal properties of amla are defined in the following shloka as:
हरीतकीसमं धात्रीफलं किन्तु विशेषतः। रक्तपित्तप्रमेहघ्नं परं वृष्यं रसायनम्।
हन्ति वातं तदम्लत्वात्पित्तं माधुर्यशैत्यतः। कफ रूक्षकषायत्वात्फलधाञ्यास्त्रिदोषजित्।
यस्य यस्य फलस्येह वीर्यं भवति यादृशम्। तस्य तस्यैव वीर्येण मज्जानमपि निर्दिशेत्।
Amla is beneficial for Pitta disorders. It also works to improve stamina and body defense against any infection because of its Vrishya (strength provider) and Rasayana (immunity) properties. Amla balances Vata because of Amala (sour) taste, balances Pitta because of its Madhura (sweet) and Sita (cold) nature. It also controls Kapha due to its Ruksha (dryness)-Kashya (astringent) properties.
Amla helps improve digestion and relieve acidity. It is also effective for diabetics as it helps control blood glucose levels. In addition to that, it helps prevent aging and greying of hair.
There are a number of ways in which you can consume Amla. It can be taken in the form of juice, murabba, chutney, and candy or even eaten raw[1][2][4]. Its beneficial properties remain nearly the same in all forms.
NEEM

Neem
Neem tree has a strong place in the world of medicine and wellness. Every part of the Neem plant can be used against various infectious diseases.
Neem can be taken orally and also be applied on the affected skin area to manage various skin problems like acne, pimples, skin rashes and skin allergies. It is also used to reduce the symptoms of psoriasis, eczema and ringworm infection.
Taking a Neem tablet after meals daily can be beneficial for diabetic patients as it may help lower blood sugar levels.

Brahmi (derived from the name of Lord Brahma and Goddess Saraswati) is a perennial herb most well known for its memory enhancing property.
Brahmi tea that is made by brewing Brahmi leaves helps to manage cold, chest congestion and bronchitis by clearing out the mucus from the air passages which helps ease breathing.
