When it comes to the management of Vitiligo / Leucoderma, undoubtedly the first and foremost drug that stands out in our minds is none else than Bakuchi.

VITILIGO / LEUCODERMA: Bakuchi is the drug of choice in the management of Vitiligo / Leucoderma. It is because of two activities - i. It promotes the production of melanin in the skin by stimulating the melanocytes; and ii. It modulates the immunity and thus prevents the activated immune cells and antibodies from destroying the melanocytes. However, for best results, simultaneous exposure to sunlight (Ultraviolet Rays) is essential.

• PSORIASIS: Bakuchi is quite useful in the management of Psoriasis, too. It acts by modulating the Immune cells and Pro-inflammatory cytokines. It thus slows down the fast growth of the epidermal layer of the skin. As result, progression of the disease slows down and the improvement begins.

• SKIN INFECTIONS: Bakuchi has been seen to possess anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities. On this basis, it could be used in the management of bacterial and fungal infections of the skin. It is used used orally, as well as, topically.

• CANCER: Bakuchi contains certain bioactive compounds that reduce the proliferation of cancer cells and promote their natural destruction (Apoptosis). On this basis, it could be a potential adjunct in the anti-cancer treatment.

• OSTEO-POROSIS: Bakuchi is quite useful in the management of osteo-porosis, especially the one occurring after menopause. It acts in two ways - 1. It promotes bones formation by directly stimulating the osteo-blastic activity; and 2. It supplements natural estrogen, and thus corrects estrogen deficiency, the major underlying factor in osteo-porosis occurring after menopause.

• VIRAL INFECTION: Research shows that two bioactive compounds - Psoralidin and Iso-bavachalcone present in Bakuchi inhibit the replication of SARS-Coronavirus. It can, therefore, be considered as a potential drug against Coronavirus.
