Annabedhi Chenduram is a traditional formulation used for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. Chendhuram or Chendooram (Red oxide form) word is derived from Ayurvedic Sidura or Sinduram and there are many Siddha medicine in this category. But, Chenduram does not always contain mercury or sulfur nor necessarily require heating to obtain sublimate.
Annabedhi Chenduram is one such medicine which is in red powder form but has no mercury-sulfur content. This medicine is prepared by triturating Purified Annabedhi in lemon juice. Small cakes are made and dried and are calcined with cow dung. Three putams arem subjected and finally powdered. This medicine is hematinic and cures deficiency of iron.

Purified Annabedhi ferrous sulphate
Lemon juice Citrus medicavar acida
The principle ingredient of this medicine is Annabedhi. Annabedhi is Siddha name given to Kasisa / Kasis. Chemically, it is Ferrous Sulphate (FeSO4. 7H2O) also known as Green vitriol, Copper as or melanterite mineral. In Unani, it is known as Hira Kasees, Zaj-e-Asfar, Tutia-e-Sabz. Kasis a secondary mineral, results from the decomposition of pyrites in the zone of oxidation and is found in small quantities wherever pyrite occurs. It occurs widely as efflorescence on the walls and timbers of mine workings.
In Ayurveda, Kasis is purified by powdering Kasis and adding sufficient amount of Bhangra Eclipta alba juice. The grinding is dome till the moisture is evaporated. After this, the same process is repeated thrice to get Purified or Shuddha Kasis.
