Madhuyashti is a 3-6 ft tall and erect, cultivated in northern parts of India. Its root is used for medicinal purposes. Root is widely used in acid peptic diseases, bronchitis, asthma.

• Useful in acid peptic diseases – Madhuyashti enhances mucus production in the stomach and strengthens the gastric mucosal barrier. In addition, it lowers the production of gastric acid, enhances ulcer healing in the stomach and duodenum, and neutralizes the excessive gastric acid present in the stomach. It is useful in the management of acid peptic diseases.

• Anti-allergic – Madhuyashti has been reported to possess anti-allergic activity, by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators like - histamine, serotonin, bradykinin, cytokines, and leukotrienes from the mast cells and basophils. It is useful in the management of allergic disorders – nasal, bronchial, skin, food, and drug allergy.

• Alleviates inflammation – Madhuyashti has been reported to have anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the production / release of inflammatory mediators. It is therefore useful in the management of inflammatory disorders – arthritis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, dermatitis etc.

• Anti-viral – Madhuyashti has been reported to inhibit the replication of viruses. It is thus useful in the management of viral infections.

• Useful in cough and asthma – Madhuyashti has been reported to be useful in cough and asthma. It acts in these conditions on the basis of its following activities – anti-inflammatory, expectorant, bronchodilator, anti-allergic, and immune-modulator.
