Kakmachi is a 3-5 ft, annual herb with white flowers. Its whole plant is used for medicinal purposes, especially liver disorders. It contains glycoalkaloids, glycoproteins, and

• Vitamin D deficiency: Research shows that Kakmachi (like many other members of Solanacea) contains natural vitamin D3 in small quantities. In addition, it reinforces liver and kidneys, where vitamin D is activated. On this basis, Kakmachi is highly recommended in vitamin D deficiency.

• Cancer: Kakmachi has been reported to possess cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. It is thus useful as a supportive drug in the management of malignant disorders and to protect against the harmful effects of chemotherapy.

• Inflammatory diseases: Kakmachi has been reported to have anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the production / release of inflammatory mediators, like cytokines and leukotrienes. It is therefore useful in the management of inflammatory disorders – arthritis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, dermatitis etc.

• Liver disorders: Kakmachi has been reported to protect the liver against harmful substances (toxins / poisons). It is thus useful in the prevent and management of liver disorders, like - Jaundice, hepatitis, fatty liver, early cirrhosis, cholecystitis.

• Kidney disorders: Kakmachi has been reported to protect the kidneys and correct its abnormalities, increases urinary production. It is useful in the management of various kidney disorders – Early / reversible reversible kidney failure / damage, urinary stones, nephrotic syndrome, interstitial nephritis, renal edema and ascites.

• Heart diseases: Kakmachi has been reported to protect the heart against toxic and ischemic damage. It is thus useful in the prevention of heart disaeses.

• Diabetes: Kakmachi has been reported to lower the raised blood sugar, either by acting as a secretagogue, or insulin senstizer. It is thus used in diabetes type-II.
