Nimba, popularly known as Neem, is fast-growing, large tree (usually 50-70 ft), with long leaves. All its parts are extremely bitter in taste. It grows across India. Its leaves, bark, and fruits are used for medicinal purpose. It contains bioactive compounds, like – Nimbidin, Nimbin, Nimbolide, Gedunin, Azadirachtin, Mahmoodin, and Cyclic trisulphide.

Anti-infective: Nimba has been reported to possess anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal activities. On the basis of these activities, it is used for the management of Gram +ve, as well as, Gram -ve bacterial infections. It is also used for the management of various viral infections, including chikungunya. Further, Nimba is quite effective in fungal infections, both internally, as well as, topically. It is especially useful in the management of skin infections.

Diabetes: Nimba has been reported to significantly lower the raised sugar. It is thus useful in diabetes type-II.

Cancer: Nimba has been reported to possess anti-mutagenic activity. It can thus be used as supportive drug in the anti-cancer drug therapy.

Obesity & Raised Lipids in the Blood: Nimba has been reported to decrease excessive body weight and raised lipids in the blood. On the basis of these activities, it could be sued in the management of obesity, raised serum cholesterol, and raised serum triglycerides.

Wounds & Ulcers: Nimba has been seen to promote wound healing. It effectively stimulates wound contraction and increases collagen.

Liver disorders: Nimba has been seen to protect the liver from various toxic substances. It is thus useful in protecting the liver from various factors that damage the liver.
